Youthful inspiration or scarred for life.
As a kid, fifteen minutes ago, I studied album covers the way a paleographer studies the Dead Sea Scrolls. Dad’s jazz collection, Disney’s Grasshopper and the Ants, Disraeli Gears, and Brain Salad Surgery, all were equally fascinating. I knew who Saul Bass was before I knew what an Impressionist was. But a book-of-the-month-club gift about the Masters when I was twelve took care of that. Toy packaging, headshop posters, and mom’s Charles Addams collection were early curiosities and inspiration. Curiosity still fuels my creative go-cart. Some things never change.
